GIS Class Map #7

Posted on

A map of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). We’re learning about Core-Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) in GIS applications, one of which are MSAs. MSAs have 50,000 or more people and at least one urbanized area (50,000+ people) while a Micropolitan Statistical Area has between 10,000 and 49,999 people and at least one urban cluster (2,500-49,999 people). We’re learning how to understand the city and urban environment in terms of differing boundaries…incorporated city (which is legally defined), urbanized area (which is thickly settled), and metropolitan area (which can include rural as well as heavily built up land).
